Rotterdam lawyer Ejder Kose is helping Turkish-Dutch to press charges against comedian Hans Teeuwen for insults he made in an interview with RTL Nieuws.
"We need to have the courage to admit that freedom of expression no longer exists", according to comedian Hans Teeuwen.
A man held by Amsterdam police during Thursday’s minute of silence for the recent Paris shootings had a large knife in his possession. He disrupted the quiet moment by singing comedian Hans Teeuwen’s song “Het vrije woord,” a song about free speech.
The VPRO is appealing the fine of Euro 600 by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) (Nederlandse Voedsel en Waren Authoriteit). The reason for the fine is in the first episode of Zomergasten on July 28, in which comedian Hans Teeuwen was smoking on TV.
The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWa) has brought an unexpected visit to the broadcaster VPRO in response to 'the smoke incident’ during Zomergasten. Two staff inspected the studio of Zomergasten names and even took a look at the ashtray where Hans Teeuwen put off his cigarette.
The broadcaster made a video of the visit and put it on their website. "The NVWa spoke with editor Peter van Ingen and then inspected the studio. Based on the visit, a report will be created, which will be the base for the final decision,” according to the VPRO.
The VPRO is fined for the cigarette that stand up comedian Hans Teeuwen, lit during the first broadcast of Zomergasten. The set is seen as a workplace and that means it is a non-smoking area. But what about smoking on a film set?
Smoking at the workplace has been banned since 2004. That Teeuwen casually lit a cigarette on the set of the talk show, will now have to paid by the VPRO.
