The Dutch immigration and naturalization service IND received a document from the Dutch embassy in Rwanda that may prove that a Rwandan refugee who received Dutch nationality in 2006 was involved in genocide in his home country in 1994. State Secretary Mark Harbers of Justice and Security is working on revoking the man's Dutch nationality, AD reports.

The man in question, 62-year-old Jean-Baptiste N., came to the Netherlands as an asylum seeker in 1999. He received Dutch nationality in 2006. He's been living and working in the Eindhoven region for years.

The Yugoslavia Tribunal in The Hague found former Bosnian-Serb army leader Ratko Mladic guilty of committing genocide in Srebrenica. He was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday, NU.nl reports

The tribunal held Mladic responsible for the mass slaughter of over 7 thousand Muslim boys and men around the Bosnian town of Srebrenica in 1995. He was also held responsible for the systematic shooting of civilians in Sarajevo and the failure to stop subordinates committing war crimes.

Minister Bert Koenders of Foreign Affairs is calling on the international community to increase pressure on Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. This is the only way that a genocide, like what happened in Rwanda and Srebrenica, can be avoided in the Syrian city of Aleppo, he wrote in an opinion piece published in British newspaper The Independent.

Over twenty years after the end of the war in the Balkans, Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadžić was sentenced to 40 years imprisonment for his role in the 1995 Srebrenica Massacre. Also referred to as a case of genocide, roughly 8,400 Muslims were slaughtered in the Srebrenica region during July 1995, with most of the victims being men or boys.

A new report issued by the UN Human Rights Office suggests that the Islamic State (ISIS) might have committed genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. Calling them the three most serious international crimes, the organization is urging Iraq to sign on to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, a treaty that established the ICC and mandates that countries criminalize the crimes listed in the treaty under their own domestic law.

The Netherlands will lodge an appeal against a Hague civil court ruling which holds the Netherlands partially responsible for the massacre of 320 Muslims by Bosnian Serb forces in Srebenica, after they were kicked out of a Dutch-controlled base. The ruling will hold the state is liable for damages suffered by the surviving families of the victims.
