Charges pressed against far-right MP for suggesting violence against Palestinians

The human rights organization The Rights Forum will press charges against far-right MP Gidi Markuszower (Groep Markuszower) for his statements regarding Palestinian asylum seekers, the organization announced on Bluesky.

The radical right-wing MP said in a video by the communist platform Left Laser that the Netherlands must stop Palestinian asylum seekers at the border “by force” if it has to. “Perhaps with even more violence than where they come from,” said the PVV defector.

According to The Rights Forum, these statements are “not only morally reprehensible, but in our opinion, incite violence against Palestinians.”

GroenLinks-PvdA (soon to be PRO) leader Jesse Klaver called Makruszower’s statement “an absolute low point,” writing on X. According to him, this calls for a “collective condemnation from right to left, from parliament to the Cabinet.”

D66 parliamentary leader Jan Paternotte also condemned the statements on X. “What complete idiocy. Stop this dangerous pissing contest on the radical right.”

At the table on the talk show Pauw & De Wit, GroenLinks-PvdA MP Lisa Westerveld said she hopes “that this goes to court.”

The Netherlands has had weeks of violent anti-asylum protests, including protesters setting fire to an asylum shelter in Loosdrecht with asylum seekers inside and preventing the fire brigade from reaching it.

During a parliamentary debate earlier this week, DENK MP Ismail el Abassi spoke of a “pattern of hatred and violence” being incited by MPs “on the right” of the political spectrum. Marksuzower and Mona Keijzer participated in a protest in Loosdrecht last week.
