The sale of Dutch energy company Eneco to Mitsubishi has stalled due to the Japanese company's history of forced labor during the Second World War. The 44 Dutch municipalities that own Eneco want the Mitsubishi Corporation to enter into dialogue with the Dutch people who were forced to work for them during the war, Trouw reports.

A North Korean laborer who worked at a polish shipyard under horrible circumstances filed a lawsuit against a Dutch company who had built ship hulls there. According to the man, the company was aware of the poor, almost slave-like, working conditions, NU.nl reports.

Law firm Prakken D'Oliveira, who is representing the North Korean man, announced the lawsuit in a statement on Thursday. The name of the Dutch company is not mentioned, as not to hinder the Public Prosecutor in an eventual criminal investigation. The man's name is withheld for his own safety, the law firm said.

On a shipyard in Poland, North Korean forced laborers are used to build ships, including many for Dutch companies, according to a study by Leiden University professor Remco Breuker. This involves the Partner Shipyard in Sczecin, Poland. 43 ships were built there in recent years, 38 of which were commissioned by Dutch ship builders, NOS and BNR report.

Some 24 Bulgarian found working at a mushroom farm in Standdaarbuiten, Noord-Brabant on Monday are allegedly victims of a forced labor scheme. The Inspectorate for the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW) raided the farm while authorities in Bulgaria carried out their own inspections to shut the operation down.
