The Netherlands ended the joint European Championships for athletics, swimming, cycling, gymnastics, golf, rowing and triathlon in Berlin and Glasgow with 43 medals - 15 gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze. With that the Dutch athletes won the fourth most medals, after Russia, Great Britain and Italy, NU.nl reports.
On Wednesday at the Wourld Championships short course in Doha, the Dutch swimmers won gold with a world record in the 4 X 200 meter freestyle.
At the final day of the world cup events in Doha, Ranomi Kromowidjojo won the 100 meter freestyle and so won her second gold medal during the events.
The Olympian champion, who won a day earlier already the 50 meter freestyle, was too quick for her competitors. She leaded the race from the start and ended with 52.29 seconds. This time is about one second slower than the world record of 4 years ago, but that was achieved with the now forbidden polyurethane swimming suit.
After the won race in Dubai, Ranomi Kromowidjojo won again in Doha at the 50 meter freestyle. The world record swimmer (23.24 seconds) finished in Doha at 23.69 seconds during the finals.
During the finals of the world cup events in Doha, none of the competitors came near to the time of Kromowidjojo. The German Dorothea Brandt finished at 24.27 seconds and the Danish Jeanette Ottesen Gray finished for Bronze at 24.33 seconds. Dutch Inge Dekker just missed a spot on the stage with 24.52 seconds.
