Between 2012 and 2016 alcohol consumption in Amsterdam decreased, but the use of hard drugs like ecstasy, cocaine and amphetamine increased, health service GGD revealed in its Amsterdam Health Monitor 2016, Het Parool reports.

For the Health Monitor te GGD questioned over 8,600 Amsterdam residents between the ages of 19 and 64 years about their physical and psychological health, daily habits and health care. The service then compared the results to a similar study done in 2012 and 2008.

A Christmas party for the Nijmegen police last month ended with police officers passed out and "urinating in sinks", according to an internal email in which a police team leader calls his colleagues to order, which the Gelderlander managed to get hold of. 

"We issued a card that does not fit with our position iin the Nijmegen society", the email reads. "How can we as independent law enforcement enter a bar tomorrow and call others on their behavior."

By 18:00 on Monday NS transported more than 250 thousand people to Amsterdam to celebrate King's Day. According to the railway company, this number is about the same as previous King's Days.

The festivities in Amsterdam went on until 20:00 on Monday night. According to RTL, the day went relatively quiet and peaceful, with few incidents. There was a fight and thrown glass on Nieuwendijk towards the end of the day and the street had to be swept clean. Amsterdam celebrated King's Day with flea markets and about 160 events.

Three girls from Volendam were brought to hospital in the weekend after a drinking game got out of hand. The girls became unconscious due to over-consumption of alcohol in a short period of time.
