People with disabilities or health problems in the Netherlands have a hard time finding work. Half of organizations do not want to hire people with disabilities or other health problems, according to a study among 3 thousand employers by social and cultural planning office SCP, BNR reports.

Half of the organizations indicated that they don't want to hire additional people with health restrictions. Two thirds said that they feel responsible for hiring people with disabilities or health problems, but only 11 percent actually intend to do so.

Months long talks between the unions and employers about new rules for flexible work and dismissal law, failed. No agreement could be reached. This means that the parties on the government formation table - the VVD, CDA, D66 and ChristenUnie - will have to come up with reforms themselves, possibly without the support of the employers and employees, which could cause delays in the government formation, AD reports.

Complimenting only the best performers in the department increases the work tempo similar to a compliment to the whole department. While giving a complement to only one or two people in the department, prompts the workers who were not complimented to work harder, AD reports.

Trade union FNV has reached a collective bargaining agreement with department store De Bijenkorf in which the store's young employees will be paid full adult wages instead of the reduced youth wage. “Young people will no longer be fobbed off with youth wage. An 18-year-old and a 23-year-old doing the same job are entitled to the same pay. Equal pay for equal work.” FNV manager Niels Suijker said.

Currently, employers have to pay their workers when they take medical leave because of an injury they get outside of their job. This should not be the financial responsibility of employers, argues the VVD, but rather employees should purchase insurance to cover them in case of an accident.

Nearly 200 organizations are laying off employees because of the introduction of the new worker protection law in July, according to labor union CNV. Temporary workers who have worked with a company for at least two years are entitled to severance pay under the new legislation.
