The population of Curaçao was forced to begin stockpiling food since neighboring country Venezuela announced a trade boycott with the Dutch Caribbean island on Friday. The trade ban also covered Aruba and Bonaire, all three of which rely heavily on the South American country's fruits and vegetables.
According to Statistics Netherlands, 62.8 percent of the people who were in prison in 2013 have at least one non-Dutch parent. Of all 17 million people living in the Netherlands, only 21.3 percent have a non-Dutch parent, a previous Statistics Netherlands report from early 2014 said.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte began on Sunday with a visit to the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom. The aim of the visit is to strengthen mutual economic relations within the Kingdom. He is accompanied by a Dutch trade delegation.
The strategic position of the Dutch islands in the Caribbean can be used much better. Dutch companies want to cooperate with the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom to do business in the wider region, especially countries like Brazil, Colombia and Panama.
