The captain of 12 Dutch football teams in the Eredivisie want artificial turf to be banned for matches in the highest football league in the country. Davy Klaasen of Ajax, Luuk de Jong of PSV and Dirk Kuyt until recently of Feyenoord, among others, signed a manifesto drawn up by players union VVCS.
Between 140 thousand and 150 thousand supporters filled the streets of Rotterdam city center on Monday to honor Feyenoord and congratulate the team on its Eredivisie victory. The players appeared on the city hall balcony shortly after noon and joined the thousands of supporters singing You'll Never Walk Alone, led by Lee Powers, NOS reports.

"Celebrate at home or elsewhere", the police said on Twitter.
The Coolsingel and surrounding areas can hold 140 thousand people in total.
A "small group of rioters" caused major disruptions in Rotterdam after Feyenoord's shocking 3-0 defeat by Excelsior on Sunday, the police said in a statement. Some 100 people were detained for crimes including challenging the police, throwing fireworks and stones, insulting police officers and not following the police's instructions.
Netherlands football coach Louis van Gaal surprised many with his selection of players for a tune-up match against France next week, leaving Nigel de Jong (M) Stefan de Vrij (D) and Maarten Stekelenburg (G) off the sheet. Jean-Paul Boëtius (F), Davy Klaassen (M) and Quincy Promes (F) will get their Oranje debuts in the match.
