The Public Prosecutor must immediately drop a criminal case against two police officers suspected of involvement in large-scale cannabis production and trade in Almelo, the court in Almelo ruled on Tuesday. Like the two cops' lawyers, the court found that there is no evidence or any reason to prosecute the two officers, NU.nl reports.
The police dropped over 16 thousand investigations this year because they did not have enough detectives available to investigate them. These involve crime reports which had a good chance of being solved, because there were leads the police could follow, NOS reports based on figures requested from the police.
Last year the Public Prosecutor decided to drop 20 percent of all completed criminal cases, according to figures Statistics Netherlands released. Ten years ago, 10 percent of criminal cases were dropped, ANP reports.
Dutch war criminal Siert Bruins will not have to go to prison for the murder of resistance fighter Aldert Klaas Dijkema in 1944. The Public Prosecution Authority in Germany has retracted the appeal to convict Bruins for murder, the court in Hagen, Germany reports.
