From Friday farmers in the whole Oost-Brabant are banned from using surface water - water from lakes and rivers - to irrigate their fields. Everyone in the area is called on to be economical with their use of water, water board Aa en Maas announced, Omroep-Brabant reports.

This ban applies to the areas Beneden AA, Boven AA and Raam. Surface water may still be used for the drinking water of cattle, for extinguishing fires, and if an adjustable drainage system is used. Farmers who use groundwater, and not surface water, for irrigation can continue to irrigate their lands.

A water main break on Grootvenstraat left parts of Tilburg flooded and numerous households without water on Friday morning. How many households are affected is unclear, Omroep Brabant reports.

The break happened around 3:45 a.m. on the industrial terrain Kraaiven. Grootvenstraat and IJpelareweg are flooded up to Kraaivenstraat. These streets are closed to car traffic. The cause of the break is unclear.

A total of 100 thousand Dutch people signed a petition asking restaurants in the Netherlands to put tap water on the menu. Star chef Richard van Oostenbrugge of two star restaurant Bord'Eau Restaurant Gastronomique in Amsterdam will be handing the petition over to Martijn Naberman, who represents the fuure of the hospitality industry as director of Tio Hotel School in Amsterdam, on Monday, tap water company Dunea announced.

Residents of Eindhoven are temporarily without drinking water after a brief shutdown at a water production facility there, Brabant Water said Wednesday. Although the water shutdown was expected to last until 5 a.m., the firm was optimistic about the possibility of having the system online by 11 p.m. Wednesday night.

A water main break in Breda flooded streets and left area residents without water Sunday, utility firm Brabant Water announced. The break caused a sinkhole on Haagweg, leading the company to send repair crews to the scene.
