The Tilburg man convicted in the Netherlands, and connected to the suicide of Canadian teenager Amanda Todd, plans to drop his appeal against his conviction in order to speed up a potential extradition to Canada, according to AD. Aydin C., now 41, was convicted in 2017 and sentenced to 10 years and 8 months in prison for the sexual abuse of 34 underage girls.

A 20-year-old Australian man was found dead in a hostel on Spuistraat in Amsterdam on Saturday morning. The police are investigating the cause of his death.

Emergency services responded to the hostel at around 11:00 a.m. after a report that the man was unwell. When they arrived, the man had already died.

The police are investigating how he died. "The detectives take into account that the use of (hard) drugs may have played a role", the police said in a statement.

Four suspects will be prosecuted for murder in connection with the downing of flight MH17 in eastern Ukraine in July 2014, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) announced in a press conference on Wednesday. The trial against the four suspects will be held in the Netherlands, starting in March 2020. “We now have the information, have the proof, that the Russian Federation is involved in this tragedy, in this crime, one way or another.” Dutch Prosecutor Fred Westerbeke said in the press conference.

Prosecutors in the Netherlands are expected to announce its first criminal case in the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, sources close to the investigation reportedly told broadcaster RTL Nieuws. The Boeing passenger jet was shot down by a Russian buk missile while flying over eastern Ukraine, officials have said.

Earlier this month the Netherlands and Australia had a first meeting with Russia about the country's liability in the MH17 disaster, Minister Stef Blok of Foreign Affairs and his Australian counterpart Marise Payne revealed in a press conference in Australia. Both Ministers stressed that they are doing everything in their power to get justice to the victims of the disaster, NOS reports.

The Netherlands and Australia will start talks with Russia about the country's liability in the downing of flight MH17 in the coming weeks, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to NU.nl after reports in RTL Nieuws. 

"We are in contact with Russia through diplomatic channels about state accountability. We are increasingly confident that we will soon be meeting with the Russians", the spokesperson said. The Ministry would not say anything about the date and location of the consultation.

Architectural firm UNStudio from Amsterdam made the winning design for the tallest building in Australia. The so-called Green Spine will consist of two helical towers, one 365 meters tall the other 252 meters, and will be built in Melbourne, NOS reports.

The tallest tower will contain housing, the other one businesses, including a hotel. Both towers will have overgrown facades and a garden on the roof. The construction will cost around 1.4 billion euros.

A suspect was arrested for a hit-and-run accident in the Australian city of Melbourne in which a 27-year-old Dutch woman was killed. The 26-year-old man was arrested in the center of the city after the police spread photos of him. The man, who has no fixed place of residence, is being questioned, the police said, NU.nl reports.

A 27-year-old woman from the Netherlands died in the Australian city of Melbourne on Sunday after she was hit by a car. According to the Australian police, the car was stolen a week ago. The driver fled the scene of the accident, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to NU.nl.

The woman was cycling when the car hit her. The car also hit various other vehicles, but the Dutch victim was the only person who got hurt. Emergency services tried to save her, but it was to no avail. She died at the scene.

The Dutch, Australian and Philippine police together rescued 18 children from sexual abuse situations on an online network. The children were offered online for abuse, mostly by family members. The youngest victim is five months old, the Dutch police said in a statement on Thursday.

People who logged into the network could order the abuse they wanted to see. Through chat conversations, they described what they wanted done to the child, agreed on a price, and then watched the abuse directly via webcam.

The Netherlands and Australia hold Russia accountable for "its share in the downing of flight MH17". Both countries informed Russia about this step, the Dutch government announced in a statement on Friday. 

This decision follows the Joint Investigation Team announcing on Thursday that the BUK missile system used to shoot down flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine on July 17th, 2014, came from the 53rd Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces.

Two Dutch people were killed in a head on collision in Australia on Wednesday. The driver of the other car, a 20-year-old Australian, sustained minor injuries, NU.nl reports.

According to Eindhovens Dagblad, the Dutch victims are a couple from Deurne in Noord-Brabant.

On Monday four Dutch police officers received the Australian award Foundation Day Honors for their help in tracking down and catching Australian pedophile Peter Scully. The four child pornography detectives were given the award on behalf of Australian Chief of Police Andrew Colvin for their "extraordinary dedication" in this investigation. This is the first time that Dutch police officers receive this award, the police said in a statement.

The countries participating in the criminal investigation into the MH17 disaster, confirmed their support and cooperation to that investigation and the prosecution of those responsible on paper. The Foreign Affairs Ministers of the five countries in the Joint investigation team - Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, Malaysia and Ukraine - signed the agreements they made on this front on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.

An criminal gang suspected of trafficking hard drugs from the Netherlands to Australia was arrested in an international police action, the Dutch Public Prosecutor announced on Tuesday. A total of 17 suspects were arrested, including two Dutch.

A 33-year-old man from Utrecht and a 47-year-old man from Huizen were arrested in the Netherlands on Tuesday. The Dutch police became involved in this case, called Operation Veyda, after the Australian police asked the Netherlands to investigate the origin of drugs trafficked to the country.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte is pleased that those responsible for downing flight MH17 will be prosecuted in the Netherlands, calling the decision the "next step on the way to finding the truth." The Dutch government is also signing a treaty with the Ukraine on Friday that will allow for prosecution on behalf of all 298 victims, not only the 196 Dutch, AD reports.

The police only say that the pictured men could "assist with inquiries", so it is not clear whether they are suspects or possible witnesses.

The Netherlands will provide the first space outside the United States to test engines for the Joint Strike Fighter jet programme, the Dutch Defense ministry announced on Thursday. A test facility will be built in Woensdrecht, Noord-Brabant with equipment, spare parts and training provided by engine manufactuer Pratt & Whitney.

The ministry, Noord-Brabant as well as the Economic Affairs ministry will invest in a maintenance workshop and testing ground. It is expected to provide work for specialists through 2049, the Defense ministry stated.
