Two explosions hit same Breda street in three days; Police probe possible link

A home on Wilgenbroek in Breda was damaged in an explosion early Sunday morning, just two days after a separate blast hit a neighboring house on the same street, police said. The investigators are now examining whether the events are connected. The residents were inside at the time. They were taken to a hospital as a precaution due to smoke exposure but were not injured.

The most recent explosion occurred around 5:30 a.m. at a residence on Wilgenbroek, and the police are treating it as arson. The blast caused a fire in the front yard and damaged the facade, front door, bicycles, a car, and the hallway of the home, according to Omroep Brabant.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. Police cordoned off the street, conducted door-to-door inquiries, and collected possible surveillance footage.

The explosion came two days after a separate incident at the neighboring home on the same street. That blast occurred late Thursday night around 1:30 a.m., when an explosive device was detonated. Police said a flammable object was used in that attack. The facade of the neighboring house was damaged. The residents were also inside at the time and were not injured.

Investigators are considering whether the two incidents are linked. “We are taking into account that the two explosions may be related, but what that connection is, we are still investigating,” a police spokesperson said.
