Mercedes driver caught speeding 240 km/h on A2 highway
The police confiscated the Mercedes-Benz and the driver’s license of a man caught speeding at nearly 240 kilometers per hour on the A2 highway on Sunday morning. The speed limit on that section of the highway is 100 kilometers per hour.
Officers flashed the Mercedes on the A2 and attempted to pull the driver over on the A27 near Nieuwegein, the Midden-Nederland traffic police wrote on Instagram. According to the police, he ignored the stop sign and fled at high speed, weaving his way through other road traffic.
The police gave chase, but were unable to apprehend the driver. The car was later found in Houten, with no one inside.
Officers eventually spotted the suspect in another vehicle. They pulled that car over and arrested the man.
The police also seized his driver’s license and his car, and reported the matter to the Central Bureau for Driving Licenses (CBR), which may decide to take further measures.
