Court extends pre-trial detention of woman suspected of killing daughter, 14, in Blerick

The woman suspected of fatally stabbing her 14-year-old daughter, Nour, in Blerick, Limburg, will remain in pre-trial detention for another 90 days, the court in Limburg has ruled.

The fatal stabbing occurred in the early morning of April 20, around 6:30 a.m., at the family home on Elzenstraat in Blerick, where Nour lived with her parents. According to authorities, the household had a history of concern, with Veilig Thuis confirming that two reports had been filed in previous years, the latest dating back two years.

Nour’s father is a familiar face in Blerick, where he runs a hair salon in a nearby shopping centre close to the family home, according to AD.

He was released on April 23 because there was not enough evidence to justify continued detention, but the Public Prosecution Service says he remains a suspect in the case. Investigators are still working to determine his exact role, if any, in his daughter’s death.

The case has had a major emotional impact in Blerick, with the girl’s school and local community in deep shock. The OM has called it a “highly serious and deeply disturbing case.”

In the days following the incident, friends of Nour and local residents came together outside the home to lay flowers and release white and pink balloons in her memory. About two weeks later, a large number of people in Venlo attended her funeral to say a final farewell to the 14-year-old girl.
