Doornspijk man, 66, killed in seven-vehicle crash at German border control on A12

A 66-year-old man from Doornspijk died, and a 28-year-old man from Amersfoort was arrested following a seven-vehicle chain-reaction crash last Saturday at the German border control on the A12, Dutch police said. The victim was resuscitated by bystanders at the scene but died there, AD reports.

The 28-year-old was taken into custody the evening of the crash for his possible role in the pileup. He was not under the influence, according to authorities.

A police spokesman declined to comment further when AD inquired about whether the 66-year-old's car was hit from behind. “I cannot elaborate on that further,” he said.

Police had previously appealed for witnesses who saw the accident itself rather than its aftermath. The spokesman did not know whether any witnesses had come forward in response to the call.
