Police helicopter supports armed escort for valuables transport across Amsterdam
A police helicopter flew for an extended period over Amsterdam on Sunday morning while supporting a valuables transport operation that moved through Zuidoost, Nieuw-West, and the city center. According to AT5, authorities have not disclosed what was being transported.
The operation involved a heavily escorted convoy, including multiple police vehicles and armed units. Residents across multiple neighborhoods reported seeing and hearing the helicopter, including areas around Osdorpplein, Lelylaan, Venserpolder, and Diemen, as well as near the Oudezijds Voorburgwal and the Raamplein.
Police said the helicopter was deployed to support the transport of valuables. The route ran from Zuidoost through Nieuw-West and into central Amsterdam.
A specialized police unit equipped with automatic firearms was stationed at the Oudezijds Voorburgwal during the operation.
Video footage shows the transport vehicle traveling along the Weesperstraat, escorted by at least four motorcycle officers and three police cars.
“Does that have to be at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday morning?” a resident told AT5. “That’s actually ridiculous.”
