Showers and strong winds to batter the Netherlands this weekend

The Netherlands faces a blustery weekend with showers and strong winds, following a period of milder weather, according to the national weather service. According to weeronline, both Saturday and Sunday will have temperatures ranging from 10 to 13 degrees, with conditions expected to improve next week.

Saturday begins with cloudy skies and occasional sun, especially in eastern regions. Showers will increase from the southwest during the morning, spreading across much of the country by afternoon. Southwesterly winds will reportedly strengthen to a moderate force inland and reach strong to near-gale levels along the coast and around the IJsselmeer, with gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour. Temperatures will start around 9 degrees at the coast and 11 to 13 degrees in central and eastern areas, falling to 7 to 10 degrees by evening.

By Saturday evening, most showers will move east toward Germany. Northern coastal areas will still experience strong winds, which will later ease to light to moderate. Skies will gradually clear overnight, although some regions may see fog or low clouds.

Minimum temperatures in the inland areas will reportedly drop to 2 to 4 degrees, with light frost possible at ground level. Coastal areas will remain slightly milder.

Sunday will start with low clouds or fog in central and northern parts of the country, while the sun shines elsewhere. Clearing from the south will bring widespread sunshine by late morning, raising temperatures to around 10 degrees. In the afternoon, cloud cover will increase in western regions, bringing light rain that will spread eastward. The east will remain dry until evening, reaching 13 to 14 degrees before rainfall arrives. Western areas will be cooler at about 10 degrees. Winds will strengthen from the south, moderate inland and strong at the coast.

Sunday evening will remain cloudy and rainy, although rain will taper off overnight from the west, allowing skies to clear. Minimum temperatures will range from 4 to 7 degrees, with light to moderate southern winds, except along the coast, where stronger winds persist.

Next week is expected to bring dry, mostly sunny, and mild spring conditions. Daytime highs will climb to 13 to 16 degrees, with a variable light to moderate wind. If southern winds return Thursday, inland temperatures could reach 18 degrees. Nights and early mornings will remain chilly, with lows near or slightly above freezing and occasional ground frost in some regions.
