Showers & occasional sunshine until Wednesday; Maybe milder weather from the weekend
With the snow melting away in most places, the Netherlands is in for several days of showers interspersed with occasional sunshine. Wednesday should be dry in most places, and from Friday, the weather could transition to milder temperatures, maybe hitting double digits over the weekend, Weeronline reports.
Monday started with snow in the northeast, accompanied by the usual icy roads, cycle paths, and sidewalks. “In the rest of the country, the snow has stopped falling, and the temperatures have risen above freezing. As a result, the snow is melting quite quickly,” Weeronline meteorologist Rico Schröder said.
And it’s not only melting snow that’s causing soggy conditions. Showers are expected in many places today, possibly with hail or thunderstorms. Maximums will range between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius.
Tonight, showers will continue to move west to east across the Netherlands. In the north, minimums may dip to below freezing. Many other places will see above-zero minimums, eventually dropping to 1 to 4 degrees Celsius.
Tuesday will be another changeable day. Showers will move across the country from the North Sea, mostly falling as rain, but some places could still get some snowflakes or sleet. During dry spells, the sun will break through the clouds. Maximums will climb to between 5 and 7 degrees, with a moderate to strong northwesterly wind.
Wednesday will be mostly dry with sunshine, with the last showers clearing up in the morning. Some cloud cover will gradually move across the sky from the south during the day, which will be cold, with maximums climbing to between 2 and 5 degrees Celsius.
“Thursday and Friday will still be cold, with daytime temperatures between 2 and 5 degrees Celsius. Nighttime temperatures will drop to a few degrees below zero,” Schröder said. Showers are likely on Thursday, especially in the south, and may be falling as snow.
On Friday, the weather will transition to milder temperatures. The weekend will be cloudy with occasional rain, but temperatures will likely rise above 10 degrees Celsius again.
