Explosive thrown on Breda balcony; Woman and child in same apartment escape injury

An explosive device was thrown onto the balcony of an apartment on Maasdijk in Breda early Saturday, police reported. A woman and a child were inside the apartment at the time but were not injured.

Neighbors were awakened around 4:45 a.m. by a loud blast. The explosion shattered the windows on the balcony side of the apartment and caused extensive damage inside the living room.

According to Omroep Brabant, the exact type of explosive used has not yet been determined.

Firefighters were called to inspect the apartment following the blast, and police are conducting an investigation in the area.
