KLM adds seats, raises prices for Milan Winter Olympics flights

KLM is increasing capacity on flights to Milan and Cortina during the Winter Olympics by using larger aircraft, the airline said Saturday. The airline expects ticket prices to rise as a result of the move, which will add about 2,600 extra seats.

The airline noted that demand for flights to Milan is higher than usual for February. A KLM spokesperson said, “In aviation, dynamic pricing is used, where the price of a seat depends on demand and availability. Major events often create a surge in bookings over a short period, while supply cannot rise at the same pace.”

KLM will not add extra flights, but the switch to larger planes increases overall capacity by roughly 12 percent.

Budget carrier easyJet also reported stronger demand for flights to Milan but said prices have not yet increased significantly. The airline operates up to four flights daily from Schiphol to Milan’s Malpensa and Linate airports.
