25-year-old woman dies in Amsterdam collision; Bike trapped under truck, witnesses say

A 25-year-old woman from Amsterdam was killed Thursday morning after her bike collided with a truck at a major intersection in Amsterdam-Zuid, police reported. Eyewitnesses told Het Parool the woman became trapped underneath the vehicle.

The crash occurred around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Ferdinand Bolstraat and Ceintuurbaan in the De Pijp neighborhood. Police said the woman was struck while riding her bicycle. She suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The truck driver was unharmed.

Police received the emergency call at approximately 11:05 a.m. Firefighters, ambulances, police officers, and a trauma team responded immediately. First aid was administered, and resuscitation was attempted but was unsuccessful.

Investigators from the police Traffic Investigation Team (OTV) and Forensic Traffic Unit (FO) are examining the circumstances of the collision. Officers from the forensic unit documented the scene, taking photographs of the bicycle that witnesses reported they found underneath the truck. The intersection was closed for several hours while the investigation was ongoing. The crash caused major disruptions to public transport. Tram lines 3, 12, and 14 were diverted.

The collision also affected nearby students. Montessori Lyceum Amsterdam informed parents and caregivers that some lower-grade students witnessed the crash. The school has engaged Slachtofferhulp and held discussions with the affected students. Additional support is also available through school staff.

Authorities said many people witnessed the accident and emphasized that seeing a serious traffic collision can be traumatic. Support is available from Slachtofferhulp Nederland, which provides free assistance to witnesses. Those affected can call 0900-0101 or request contact through the organization’s website.
