No NS trains until at least 10:00 due to winter weather, IT outage

No NS trains are running on Tuesday morning due to numerous switch failures caused by the winter weather and an additional IT outage. The Dutch rail company hopes to start up train traffic by around 10:00 a.m. “We advise you to avoid traveling by train this morning and to postpone your journey,” NS said.

Snow and freezing weather caused multiple major disruptions to train traffic on Monday. NS therefore planned to switch to the winter timetable, with fewer trains, on Tuesday. But according to the rail company, that proved impossible. “Consequently, no NS trains will be running this morning,” NS said.

An NS spokesperson told NOS that the IT issue is affecting the “essential system” that is responsible for scheduling. The outage means that “we can’t operate the winter timetable with the large number of switch failures.”

The spokesperson stressed that this IT issue is unrelated to the winter weather. “It just so happens that it’s happening at the same time.”

Whether NS trains will be able to start running by 10:00 a.m. remains unclear. “We are working tirelessly to get the timetable up and running,” the rail company said. According to NS, international trains and trains from other transport companies are still running.
