Dutch 6-year-old and 19-year-old severely injured in separate Tirol ski accidents
Two Dutch tourists—a 6-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man—sustained serious injuries in separate skiing incidents in Tirol, Austria, on Thursday, Christmas Day, authorities reported.
The girl was injured at the Finkenberger Almbahnen ski area after losing control of her skis. She went through a safety net and collided with a lift station building in the valley.
Ski lift staff and family members provided immediate first aid before she was airlifted by trauma helicopter to a hospital in Innsbruck, according to regional police.
The 19-year-old man suffered severe head and upper-body injuries at the Kitzski ski area. He was part of a group of eight alpine skiers.
Police said he collided at high speed with a “snow depot”—a pile of frozen stored snow—off-piste, for reasons that remain unknown. He was also airlifted to Innsbruck.
