Radboudumc tops Dutch hospital rankings as Anna Ziekenhuis leads in patient experience
Dutch hospitals are generally receiving strong approval from patients and local residents, with average ratings reaching 7.9 out of 10, according to the latest nationwide survey by Ziekenhuischeck.nl, an initiative of the Dutch Association of Hospitals (NVZ).
The survey, reviewed by Zorgwijzer, a Dutch website that provides information on healthcare and hospital quality, evaluated hospitals on overall quality and patient experience, with scores ranging from 7.3 to 8.9.
Three hospitals achieved the highest overall score of 8.5. Radboudumc in Nijmegen ranked first, combining its top general rating with strong scores in patient experience. Antoni van Leeuwenhoek in Amsterdam and Deventer Ziekenhuis also earned an 8.5. Other hospitals rounding out the top five were Catharina Ziekenhuis in Eindhoven and UMCG in Groningen, both with scores of 8.4.
The survey collected feedback from patients, family members, visitors, and local residents across the Netherlands in 2025. Evaluators considered factors such as communication, scheduling, and attention to personal needs.
For direct patient experience, the Anna Ziekenhuis in Geldrop received the highest score of 8.9, surpassing major UMC hospitals. This was an improvement from last year’s rating of 8.8. Radboudumc, UMCG, UMC Utrecht, and Streekziekenhuis Koningin Beatrix in Winterswijk each scored 8.7 in patient experience, with the latter dropping from its previous top rating of 8.6 in overall quality.
Ziekenhuischeck.nl compiles hospital quality information from multiple sources, including Zorginstituut Nederland, the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa), the Healthcare Inspectorate (IGJ), and the National Basic Hospital Care Registry (LBZ).
