Police may search anyone in The Hague city center during Saturday demonstration

Anyone in The Hague city center this Saturday may be subject to a search, as Mayor Jan van Zanen has designated the area as a safety risk zone due to a planned demonstration, the municipality reported.

According to city officials, the measures are intended to ensure the demonstration proceeds in an orderly manner and to protect the safety of participants and bystanders.

The “March for a Safe Netherlands” is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Laan van Reagan en Gorbatsjov. Between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., police may search anyone in the city center, including people not participating in the demonstration.

Searches will take place at several locations, including Koningin Julianaplein, Plein, Lange Vijverberg, Koninginnegracht, Parkstraat, Mauritskade, the Koekamp, and The Hague Central Station. The safety zone is marked by a blue dotted line.

During the demonstration, wearing face-covering clothing or items that obstruct facial recognition is prohibited. This includes masks, full-face helmets, balaclavas, and face-covering cloths.
