Tesla slams into tram in Uithoorn, causing derailment and multiple injuries

A Tesla crashed into an approaching tram in Uithoorn early Saturday, causing the tram to derail and leaving multiple people injured. Authorities have not confirmed how many were hurt.

Police said the collision happened around 6 a.m. near the Randweg after the car entered the tracks for reasons that remain unknown. According to AD, the major disruption that shut down service between Westwijk and Uithoorn Centrum.

The impact was severe, derailing the tram and destroying the overhead power line. Emergency services responded in large numbers, including firefighters and a trauma helicopter. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

GVB, the transit operator, said trams are not running between Westwijk and Uithoorn Centrum and buses are being used instead. It remains unclear when normal service will resume.
