"Several" officers hurt when stolen car hits police motorcycles, squad cars in Eindhoven

"Several" police officers were injured Wednesday evening after the driver of a vehicle reported stolen allegedly struck two police squad cars and two police motorcycles, authorities said. There were no immediate arrests in the apparent hit-and-run, which happened in the northbound lanes of the A2 motorway just north of Eindhoven near the Batadorp interchange.

"Several officers were injured, two of whom were seriously injured," police said in a statement. A trauma helicopter was sent to the scene, and traffic was being diverted, infrastructure agency Rijkswaterstaat stated.

"The driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene," police confirmed. A description of the driver was not released.

It was not immediately clear if the incident jeopardized whether people stuck in traffic would be able to cast a ballot in the 2025 General Election. Traffic was at a standstill on a section of the A2 west of Eindhoven, and delays were reported on the N2 in the area.

The heavy traffic was still in place at 8:55 p.m., five minutes before the voting period was set to end. "The motorway is closed for investigation," the police said on social media. "Traffic experts are on site to investigate the cause and circumstances of the accident."
