Six hospitalized after apartment fire in The Hague

Six residents were hospitalized Sunday after a fire broke out in a bedroom of an apartment building on Vaillantlaan in The Hague, officials said.

The fire started around 3:00 p.m., likely in a clothing closet, a spokesperson for the fire department said. Omroep West reported that all six residents were able to evacuate on their own but suffered smoke and carbon monoxide inhalation.

Smoke from the fire spread to a neighboring entrance, prompting firefighters to evacuate about 15 apartments. Some residents were rescued from balconies, the spokesperson added.

Those displaced were taken to a nearby community center for shelter. Surrounding apartments have since been cleared, but the apartment where the fire occurred remains temporarily uninhabitable.
