A car spontaneously catches fire near Venray; Driver escapes unharmed

A car spontaneously caught fire early Saturday morning on the Langstraat near Venray, forcing the driver to exit just in time, Omroep Brabant reported. The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. as the driver was traveling from Venray to Deurne.

“The cause of the spontaneous fire is not yet known,” police reported.

According to authorities, the vehicle suddenly ignited, leaving the driver unable to steer clear because of a guardrail along the road. He stopped the car and exited safely before the flames spread.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but firefighters were unable to save the vehicle, which was completely destroyed.

Traffic on the Langstraat was temporarily closed in both directions while crews extinguished the fire. Vehicles were rerouted via a side road, but no injuries were reported.
