Bird flu confirmed at Hummelo hobby farm; Roughly 150 birds to be culled

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) is culling all 150 birds at a hobby farm in Hummelo to prevent the further spread of avian influenza, marking the second outbreak in Gelderland this week, Omroep Gelderland reported.

Two days earlier, avian influenza was detected at a commercial farm in Dodewaard, where approximately 161,000 birds had to be culled.

Authorities have immediately imposed a transport ban within a 10-kilometer radius of the farm. The ban prohibits the movement of poultry and eggs, whether for hatching or consumption, from any location with birds. It also covers the removal of bird manure, used litter, animal products, and other animals from farms.

One other poultry farm is located within 3 kilometers of the infected property, and 16 commercial poultry farms lie within a 10-kilometer radius.
