Man on moped killed in collision with car in Wormerveer; Driver arrested for questioning

A 28-year-old man from the municipality of Zaanstad was killed early Saturday after his moped collided with a car on Wandelweg in Wormerveer, police said.

The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. Emergency services responded in large numbers, and the victim was resuscitated at the scene, but he died from his injuries despite the efforts.

Police said the driver of the car was taken into custody “according to procedure.” Both alcohol and drug tests returned negative results.

The cause of the collision is under investigation. Wandelweg was closed for several hours overnight while forensic officers examined the scene.
