Fire destroys Almelo restaurant and apartments, leaves residents homeless
A devastating fire swept through a building on Rohofstraat in Almelo on Sunday morning, completely destroying an Asian restaurant on the ground floor and the apartments above, leaving several residents homeless. According to RTV Oost, no injuries were reported.
The blaze broke out around 9 a.m. Firefighters escalated their response immediately upon arrival, bringing in extra personnel to tackle the flames. Parts of the building had to be demolished to control the fire.
Thick smoke billowed from the structure as firefighters battled the fire, while an ambulance remained on standby in the street.
Police cordoned off the area to allow emergency services to work safely and to keep residents and bystanders at a safe distance.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Stichting Salvage, a foundation that assists victims of fires and disasters, has been called in to support displaced residents with damage assessment and housing arrangements.
