Cyclist, 23, killed in collision with car in Barendrecht; driver arrested

A 23-year-old man was killed early Sunday after being struck by a car on Noldijk in Barendrecht, police said.

The fatal collision occurred at an equal-priority intersection, where, according to police, the cyclist likely approached from the right.

Rijnmond reported that the impact threw the man off his bicycle. Emergency services attempted to resuscitate him at the scene, but he died from his injuries.

Police said the driver of the car was arrested, as is standard procedure following deadly traffic accidents.

The damaged bicycle remained near the scene as investigators documented evidence and reconstructed the circumstances of the crash.
