Explosion heavily damages four homes in Vlissingen; One hospitalized

An overnight explosion in Vlissingen left four houses badly damaged and sent one person to the hospital, police said Sunday. Police are treating the explosion as an intentional act.

The blast occurred around 2:15 a.m. Sunday on Bonenburg. Emergency crews found no fire at the scene but treated three people for injuries caused by flying glass, according to the regional safety authority. One of the injured was taken to a hospital.

Police said the suspect remains at large. According to NU.nl, Vlissingen has struggled with violent incidents in recent years. Drug seizures are also regularly reported in Vlissingen’s harbor.

Parts of the city were temporarily designated as high-security risk zones last year after multiple shootings.
