ATM exploded in Oosterbeek; Suspects flee, no cash stolen
A failed ATM explosion shook Oosterbeek late Saturday night, leaving a heavily damaged machine and a nearby street cordoned off by police. The device, installed in a shop on Utrechtseweg, was largely destroyed.
A local resident across from the ATM told Omroep Gelderland he saw three men at the scene. “One of them was standing watch while the other two worked on the machine. After the explosion, they ran toward the park behind the building,” he said.
The surrounding wall was blackened, and debris scattered across the sidewalk. The blast was reportedly audible in nearby Doorwerth. Authorities said a heavy explosive was likely used, as the ATM was completely destroyed.
A security guard at the site confirmed the incident was a failed attempt. “The safe behind the ATM remained intact. An armored van will remove the cash this morning,” he told Omroep Gelderland.
Police blocked part of Utrechtseweg for investigation. Witnesses have been interviewed, and surveillance footage is being reviewed to identify the suspects and determine the full sequence of events.
