Suspect in Rotterdam child sex abuse case also accused of rape in 2011
The 54-year-old suspect accused of sexually assaulting a girl in Zuiderpark, Rotterdam, on August 12, is now also suspected in a sexual abuse case in Rotterdam-Zuid that occurred in 2011. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) reported on Thursday that DNA from the 2011 incident matched the suspect. He will remain in custody for an additional 90 days. He is suspected of rape and of unlawfully depriving a girl of her freedom in 2011.
According to the OM, the girl was chased into a corridor with storage units at the time. She was trapped when the suspect closed the door, which is why he is now being prosecuted for unlawful deprivation of liberty. Although the sexual offense has now expired, the suspect is being prosecuted for unlawful deprivation of liberty in connection with the incident.
The suspect was arrested on August 19 in a home in Rotterdam-Zuid, following a separate sexual incident the week before in Zuiderpark. On that day, the girl was in the park with her mother and briefly out of sight around 4:30 p.m. She later reported that a man had touched her while she was in the bushes on Zuiderparkpromenade-West, according to police statements.
Police confirmed that the suspect lives in Rotterdam-Zuid. Officers searched his home and seized his phone. He is described as having a light skin complexion, a black and gray beard and hair, and green-blue eyes.
