Asylum seeker injured by stray bullet in Albergen, police investigate
A resident of an asylum center in Albergen was struck by a bullet from a passing car Friday evening, police reported. The man sustained a red mark from the shot and was examined as a precaution by paramedics.
Police said it is unclear what type of projectile hit the man, but investigators do not believe he was specifically targeted. He had been standing with several others outside the building on Gravendijk at the time of the incident.
Authorities confirmed that no firearm or replica weapon was involved. The incident is being treated as either a threat or simple assault. No suspects have been identified.
The Albergen asylum center, located in the municipality of Tubbergen, sparked violent protests when it opened several years ago. Incidents at the time included arson and threats against the mayor. According to the police, there have been no similar disturbances since the facility began operating.
