Highway fight on A16 near Breda halts traffic; Police arrest one driver after drug test
A road rage incident on the A16 near Breda escalated into a fight on the highway, leading to one arrest after a positive drug test and an eight-kilometer traffic jam, Omroep Brabant reported.
Police said the confrontation happened near the Princeville junction, where two drivers stopped their vehicles on the left lane and began fighting. Officers driving past by chance noticed people standing on the road and intervened.
Both individuals involved were checked by ambulance personnel. One of them tested positive for drugs and was taken to a police station.
During the police response, the left lane was closed with a red cross, but at least 15 motorists ignored the closure and drove through the blocked lane. Police issued fines to each of them.
Authorities said the cause of the altercation is unknown. The incident caused a traffic backup of eight kilometers on the A16 heading from the Belgian border toward Breda, resulting in delays of about 20 minutes.
