Video: Truck spills load of yogurt and butter in Tilburg; locals grab the spoils
A delivery mishap involving a supermarket truck in Tilburg Sunday evening turned a busy intersection into a slippery mess of yogurt, pudding, and milk, prompting dozens of residents to rush in with bags and crates to salvage what they could, Omroep Brabant reports.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. at the intersection of the Lage Witsiebaan and Ringbaan-West. According to witnesses, the truck was stationary at a red light. When the light turned green and the driver accelerated, six rolling crates inside the truck’s cargo area broke loose for unknown reasons. The rear door gave way, and a load of dairy products spilled out onto the road.The result was a chaotic scene: the street was coated in smeared yogurt and pudding, which spread quickly due to light rain. Despite the mess, many products reportedly remained intact. Packs of butter, milk cartons, and dessert cups lay among the wreckage.
With cleanup impossible for the driver alone, he reportedly turned to nearby onlookers in frustration and said, “Just take some with you!” That call sparked an impromptu neighborhood response. Dozens of residents, some in dairy-soaked shoes, showed up with shopping bags, crates, and trash bags to collect the salvageable goods. “The Lage Witsiebaan was ankle-deep in custard,” one bystander told the newspaper.
Police eventually stepped in to clear the area, as people wandering in the road created hazardous conditions. By then, locals had already made off with bags full of dairy.
