Man killed, another critically hurt in three-car crash on A2 near Maarheeze

A man died and another suffered critical injuries in a crash involving three cars on the A2 near Maarheeze early Saturday morning, according to emergency services.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, while his passenger was taken into custody due to an outstanding prison sentence.
The collision occurred around 1 a.m. and triggered a large emergency response, NOS reported. Multiple ambulances, a trauma helicopter, the fire brigade, and numerous police units were dispatched to the scene.
One man was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. A third man was also transported to a hospital for precautionary checks, authorities said.
Police launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, prompting a partial closure of the highway. The off-ramp at Budel-Maarheeze remained shut for several hours during the investigation. According to the ANWB, all lanes and the affected exit have since reopened.
