Code yellow warning issued for severe thunderstorms in Southern Limburg

The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued a code yellow warning for the extreme southern region of Limburg due to incoming severe thunderstorms. These storms, expected to occur in the coming hours near the Belgian border, may bring small hail and intense rainfall, potentially causing disruptions.

KNMI reports that localized rainfall could reach up to 20 millimeters within a short period, which may impact road traffic and outdoor activities. The storms are accompanied by heavy showers and occasional hail, creating hazardous conditions in this area.

Meteorologist Matthijs van der Linden from Weeronline described the ongoing summer weather as variable and unstable. “If you encounter a heavier shower, you will get wet quickly without an umbrella or shelter,” he told the Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant (PZC).

The temperature is forecasted to range between 20 and 23 degrees, slightly cooler than the average for late July. Van der Linden added, “With dry weather, it still feels pleasant outside, and when the sun shines longer, temperatures can rise a few degrees. We will have decent vacation weather, but we will need to monitor the precipitation radar regularly. It is advisable to carry an umbrella on outings.”
