Man, 21, shot dead in Coevorden; 18-year-old arrested as police search for more suspects
A 21-year-old man from Emmen died after being shot early Saturday morning in Coevorden. An 18-year-old man from Schoonebeek has been arrested in connection with the incident, according to police. Authorities have not disclosed the circumstances of the shooting.
Emergency services responded around 3 a.m. to reports of gunfire on Kromme Elleboog, NU.nl reported. Officers found the victim critically injured at the scene. He was taken to the hospital but later died from his wounds.
Police arrested the 18-year-old shortly after the incident for possible involvement. His role in the shooting remains under investigation. Authorities said they are still searching for one or more suspects.
According to witnesses, a dark-colored car was seen driving away from the area after the shooting. Police are investigating whether the vehicle is linked to the crime and are asking anyone with information or footage to come forward.
Given the severity of the case, a Team Grootschalige Opsporing (large-scale investigation team) has been launched. Police are conducting a neighborhood canvas, collecting camera footage, and performing forensic examinations at the scene.
