Video: Fire brigade rescues kids stuck at 20-meter height in broken funfair ride
Two children who visited the funfair in Assen got more excitement than they were expecting on Wednesday evening. They were riding the catapult attraction when it broke and left them stuck at a height of 20 meters. The fire brigade had to go rescue them, RTL Nieuws reported.
A technical defect left the ride unable to lower back to the ground. The two kids were stuck at a great height for several minutes until the fire brigade arrived with an aerial platform. Other funfair visitors cheered loudly when firefighters brought the children safely to the ground.
“No one was injured,” a spokesperson for the fire brigade told the broadcaster. “Fortunately, everything turned out well.”
The spokesperson could not say whether the ride was shut down or still in operation after the incident.
Earlier this month, there was a near-miss with a similar attraction at a funfair in Nistelrode, in Noord-Brabant. A girl wasn’t strapped in properly and jumped out of the attraction just before it launched. The Dutch Food and Consumer Safety Authority (NVWA) spoke of human error that was “fortunately corrected in time.”
