Prosecutors angered by court's decision to release suspect in fatal hit-and-run
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has been left angered by the decision to release a 36-year-old from Dordrecht who had been arrested in connection with the fatal hit-and-run that occurred on the Reigersbergenweg in The Hague on Tuesday. The examining magistrate of the court in The Hague decided to suspend the suspect’s pre-trial detention on Friday, but the OM disagreed with this. They are set to appeal the decision.
A 51-year-old man from The Hague lost his life in the incident. The victim was found at around 5:10 a.m. in the Mariahoeve district and later died of his injuries in the hospital. The investigation has proved that it was likely due to a collision, and the driver had fled the scene.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday. He was signaled after an extensive investigation, police said. A car that the victim was possibly driving during the incident was seized by the officers.
Police are still conducting the investigation and are requesting anyone with any information or any camera footage of the incident to come forward.
