Overnight fire in The Hague leaves 3 homes uninhabitable, 9 evacuated

A fire that broke out early Saturday morning in a portico apartment in The Hague’s Duindorp neighborhood forced the evacuation of nine homes and left three residences uninhabitable. No injuries were reported, according to NOS.

The fire started around 1:30 a.m. in the kitchen of one of the apartments on Pluvierstraat. According to the regional safety authority, it was a fully developed kitchen fire that caused significant damage before firefighters extinguished the blaze at approximately 2:45 a.m.

Multiple firefighting vehicles responded to the scene. While no one was injured, all residents of the nine affected apartments were forced to spend the night elsewhere. Three of the homes were later declared uninhabitable due to the extent of the damage.

Simultaneously, a second fire was reported directly across the street, where someone deliberately set fire against the door of another portico. The police have opened an investigation into the suspected arson. Authorities have not yet identified who was responsible for starting the fire on the opposite side of the street. The safety region and police continue to assess the situation.
