Grenade-like explosives found in car with French plates in Breda
Police launched an overnight explosives investigation Friday after a car with French license plates was found near Prinsenbeek station in Breda, possibly containing hand grenades, Omroep Brabant reports.
The vehicle was pulled over around 10:45 p.m. near the station elevator on Backer en Ruebweg, after it was reportedly spotted earlier on the A16 highway. Photos from the scene suggest the car was carrying hand grenades, though police have not officially confirmed the type of explosives.
Authorities immediately cordoned off the area around the vehicle. The Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) and the police Forensic Investigation unit were deployed to the site. A bus carrying defense personnel also arrived as more police gathered.
The investigation lasted through the night. At approximately 5:15 a.m. Saturday, the operation concluded and the vehicle was removed from the scene by tow truck.
Officials have not disclosed any details about the car’s occupants or whether any arrests were made.
