Dutch ambassador summoned to Tehran after intelligence report accusing Iran of murders
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Dutch ambassador to Tehran to discuss a report by the AIVD. It was stated in the intelligence service’s report that Iran was probably behind two murder attempts in the Netherlands and Spain. These accusations are considered unfounded, the Iranian press agency IRNA reported.
A top official of the Iranian ministry said that the accusations are “laughable” and based on “suspicions or assumptions,” the IRNA added. He continued: “It is regrettable that the Dutch diplomatic apparatus relies so easily on speculations from its security services and the Zionist regime (Israel) and even summons the Iranian ambassador to present such an absurd fabrication."
The Netherlands summoned the Iranian ambassador on Thursday after the publication of the AIVD’s annual report. The Dutch intelligence service was investigating the murder of an Iranian activist and journalist who lived in Haarlem in June 2024. Several suspects have been arrested in this case.
There have also been accusations against Iran linking them to assassinations in the Netherlands in the past. Political activist Ahmad Mola Nissi was fatally shot in The Hague in 2017. This came two years after Ali Motamed was killed in Almere.
