Most Dutch satisfied with their homes; Homeowners happier than tenants
Last year, 82.5 percent of Netherlands residents were satisfied with their homes, compared to 86 percent in 2021, the Telegraaf reported based on Statistics Netherlands’ (CBS) triennial Housing Survey. Homeowners were much likelier to be happy with their home than tenants, 93 percent versus 68 percent.
Tenants were more likely than homeowners to report experiencing defects in their homes. They more often struggled with damp, mold, or drafts. They had more trouble getting their homes warm in the cold or cool in the heat.
Damp and mold are an increasing problem in the Netherlands. Last year, 20 percent of households reported struggling with this, compared to 15 percent in 2021. Both homeowners (14 percent) and tenants (30 percent) had more damp and mold problems, most often in the bathroom, followed by the bedroom and the living room.
Mold problems were most commonly reported by households in the Amsterdam region and Delfzijl and its surroundings. Here, almost 3 in 10 households struggled with mold and damp. In the regions Noord Overijssel, Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, Midden-Limburg, and the Achterhoek, about half as many households reported these issues.
