More people in Netherlands satisfied with their financial situation
More people in the Netherlands were satisfied with their financial situation last year. According to research by Statistics Netherlands (CBS), 79 percent of people aged 18 or older were satisfied with their finances last year, compared to 77 percent a year earlier. Furthermore, 54 percent were not worried about their financial future, compared to 50 percent a year earlier.
Financial satisfaction was highest in 2021, at 82 percent. That year, 58 percent weren’t worried about their financial future. Last year, 5 percent of people were dissatisfied with their finances. The remainder were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.
People with the highest incomes are the least concerned about their finances. Those with the lowest incomes have the most worries. Of that group, 38 percent are very concerned about their financial future. Single parents are the least satisfied with their finances, while couples without children are the most satisfied.
CBS also found that tenants receiving housing benefits are most likely to worry about their financial future, at 37 percent. This is a significant decrease compared to the previous year, when 46 percent of these tenants worried about their future. Among tenants not receiving housing benefits, 35 percent are very worried.
Homeowners are the least likely to worry, at 21 percent. The difference between tenants and homeowners is related to income: tenants, on average, have a lower income and are therefore more likely to worry about their financial future.
